UK Responsible Procurement Supplier Standard AccreditationSetting the Responsible Standards
standards buyers trust
The UK Responsible Procurement Supplier Standard (UKRPSS) exists to make responsible public-sector procurement clearer, more consistent, and more meaningful for both buyers and suppliers. Too often, suppliers are asked to repeatedly evidence the same commitments across multiple tenders, while buyers struggle to distinguish genuine capability from well-written promises. UKRPSS was created to address this gap by providing an independent, evidence-led standard that focuses on real implementation, transparency, and continuous improvement.
Accreditation removes ambiguity by providing a clear, independent signal of maturity and compliance. It reduces the assurance burden for buyers and avoids repeated explanation across bids and frameworks. For suppliers, it converts standards into demonstrable evidence that evaluators can score with confidence. This leads to stronger evaluations, higher scores and improved win rates.
At its core, UKRPSS is about raising standards without raising barriers, supporting SMEs, encouraging measurable social and environmental impact, and helping buyers make better, more confident procurement decisions.

How the Standard Works
Suppliers are assessed against a defined set of questions under each theme. For every question, suppliers must:
- Confirm whether the requirement is met
- Provide verifiable evidence (policies, data, records, links)
- Demonstrate implementation, not just existence
- Identify improvement actions where maturity is developing
Scores across all themes determine the accreditation tier achieved.

benefits to accreditation
setting the responsible standards
tender-ready by design
UKRPS prepares suppliers for public-sector tendering by aligning evidence, policies, and delivery practices to common evaluation criteria. Accredited suppliers are better positioned to respond quickly and confidently to ITTs, RFQs, and framework applications without repeatedly recreating the same content.
higher evaluation scores
Because UKRPS is evidence-led and mapped to responsible procurement expectations, accredited suppliers are more likely to score higher in quality-based sections such as:
- Social Value
- Environmental Sustainability and Net Zero
- Governance and Ethical Sourcing
- People, Equality, and Wellbeing
The tiered model allows suppliers to demonstrate maturity beyond minimum compliance, helping evaluators clearly differentiate stronger submissions.
reduced duplication across tenders
UKRPS enables suppliers to complete a single, structured assessment and reuse that evidence across multiple tenders, frameworks, and procurement portals. This reduces bid effort, improves consistency, and minimises the risk of contradictory or outdated responses.
independent supplier assurance
Accreditation provides buyers with an independent assurance signal that goes beyond self-declaration. This helps reduce buyer risk and increases confidence in a supplier’s ability to deliver responsibly throughout the life of a contract.
clear differentiation in competitive bids
In crowded procurement exercises, UKRPS accreditation helps suppliers stand out by demonstrating verified maturity rather than generic claims. Higher tiers signal stronger governance, measurable outcomes, and embedded responsible practices.
recognition across platforms and frameworks
UKRPS is platform-agnostic and framework-neutral. Once accredited, suppliers can reference their status across different procurement portals, frameworks, and buyer systems without being tied to a single platform.
proportionate for SMEs
The Standard is designed to be proportionate, allowing SMEs to demonstrate credible capability without being disadvantaged by size or resources. Bronze and Silver tiers provide accessible entry points, with clear pathways to higher maturity.
